Free Comic Book Day 2018

If you didn't know, the first Saturday of every May is a special day for nerds everywhere. It's a day called Free Comic Book Day, where comic book stores offer a special selection of free comic books, &, in many cases, have other sales/discounts around the store. These free comic books are usually special issues of both popular & niche series that act as easy introductions to their stories to encourage people to get into reading comic books. This year, we got to go out to Madness Games and Comics over in Plano for #FreeComicBookDay & it was PACKED! On top of offering the usual selection of free comics, they also hosted a special autograph signing for four of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (Steve Cardenas, Karan Ashley, Walter Jones, & Johnny Yong Bosch), Veronica Taylor (the voice of Ash Ketchum from Pokémon), & legendary voice actor, Jim Cummings (Darkwing Duck, Winnie the Pooh & Tigger, Dr. Robotnik, Pete from Goof Troop, & SO MANY more). If that wasn't enough, some of the ladies from Assassination City Roller Derby were on-hand to talk about raising money for the various charities they support; the remote controlled RtwoDtwo Koenig astromech was there rolling around the store, which was a hit for kids & adult alike; & Members of the Gearbox Software and Publishing teams had a table set up to sign any Gearbox games & merch, as well as talk about their playtesting program. All of this was on top of the normally impressive size & scope of what Madness normally offers.

If you have never been inside Madness Games & Comics before, it is one of the largest comic book stores in DFW. In addition to the very large selection of single issues & graphic novels/TPB's (trade paper backs) from each of the major publishers (& some indie shops) that they keep in stock, they also have a massive selection of table top & role playing games, nerdy collectables, toys, clothing, & the largest selection of Magic: The Gathering cards that we've ever seen! Madness offers an easy environment for newbies to comics & table top gaming to come & start their introduction to any & all aspects of the culture without fear of looking foolish or being intimidated. What's more, the staff at Madness is very knowledgeable & willing to answer any questions that you may have: from "where do I get started" to "who is this character & why do they seem so popular". For new & long time comic fans alike, Madness Games & Comics knows how to keep the community alive!
