Is Hamilton the Best Disney Musical of the Decade?

With social distancing finally giving all of us a chance to catch up on our Netflix watch list, it has become increasingly difficult to find something new & entertaining to watch while we’re all stuck at home. But wait…who is that shining hero riding up from the horizon to save us? Is that? It is! It’s Hamilton on Disney+!

Yes, Hamilton, the spectacular Broadway show that won ALL of the Tonys for its portrayal of Alexander Hamilton and the founding of our nation using lyricism so deft & creative that the most popular song in the musical, “My Shot”, took nearly an entire year to write. It’s portrayal of our founding fathers using a cast specifically focused on showing the diversity of today’s America, rather than attempting to show a more realistic, paler complexioned main cast, emphasised an idealistic vision for the country that Lin-Manuel Miranda believes could exist. While it could not show every aspect of the life and times of Alexander Hamilton in a totally realistic way, it does prominently display the hope & potential of the American promise in a way that is meant to inspire the viewers in a way that only Broadway can.

So, the question is, now that Hamilton has been officially adopted into the Disney library, thanks to Disney+, is this the best musical Disney has given us in recent history? More importantly, is it already the best musical of the decade? We’ll answer these questions & more on today’s special weekend episode of Dallas Geek!
