Comic conventions have an interesting place in modern pop culture. Most of the media coverage today typically revolves around one of two things: the celebrity guests & the spectacle of all the colorful costumes & cosplayers that attend. If you spend much time on the internet, & especially social media, the latter is probably the main thing you see take over the conversation about convention around summer time (i.e. convention season). To be fair, the reason for that is pretty easy to explain. Cosplayers are the most colorful & striking visuals at any convention. So much so, that news outlets & attendees alike quickly gravitate to their costumes like moths to a flame as soon as they walk in the door. However, in all of the excitement about the cool costumes & incredible work, it’s easy for most people to overlook the most obvious thing that has let the public continue to enjoy these cosplayers once they leave the convention: the photographers who’s pictures bring the characters to life!

Cosplay photographers are actually a unique type of photographer. Whether they focus on special effects images or incredible event style photos, cosplay photographers understand the characters they take pictures of & know how to bring out the true essence of those characters. Of the photographers working today, one of the best in Texas, in our opinion, is Shane with Roxas Studios. He does both special effects images & highly stylized portraits that are quickly gaining attention all over the internet. We could take the time to explain how he does what he does & what makes his work so unique. We could even take the time to show how he works with his models & helps bring out the best side of them during a photoshoot. However, what matters most are the images because they truly speak volumes. The best thing you can do to understand Shane & his work is to follow him & just look at his images. There’s always something new & inspiring to see. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed!
